While I do not have an 11 Pro Max, I do have a XS Max, and it can also sometimes get hot!.

I’ll try to help the best I can!

Im going to assume that generally it gets warmest right underneath the camera, correct?

If you know the temperature it reaches, it would help if you could post that.

  1. Firstly (although it seems obvious) make sure you have closed all background apps.
  2. Check your battery page in settings, and see if a certain app is draining a lot of power rapidly.
  3. I would suggest turning off background app refresh, either for apps you don’t need it for, or altogether.
  4. Obviously (if you haven’t already) try restarting the phone.
  5. Also, try turning on low power mode, this downclocks your processor(s) and makes them consume less power, and subsequently produce less heat.
  6. As a last ditch effort, it is possible you have a malicious app running in the background attempting to use your hardware for nefarious purposes like crypto mining. (Again, highly unlikely unless you are jailbroken or install 3rd party apps)

I do recommend this resource too, however, it contains helpful information

I hope I could help!

As long as no temperature warning appears, you should be fine, it is better for your phone to be hot on the outside than the inside. If you’re charging it and it’s getting hot, that’s normal (not too hot as to cause a temperature trip) the 11 pro has some very powerful hardware which understandably generate a lot of heat that needs to be disappated. If you think it’s an issue though, contact Apple.
