how do I get dropbox to update my new folders on my IMac, with OS Catalina? Dropbox works on my IPhone...why not my IMac?

Dropbox does work on my Mac running Catalina (doesn't help you other than to confirm that it is not a general lack of compatibility with Catalina). You may want to check Dropbox help, the Dropbox forum, and/or Dropbox support:
