Family Sharing - How to share purchases made on an individual Apple ID with the Family Sharing Account?

My son redeemed a gift card with his new phone with his own apple ID and did not yet have our family sharing apple ID set up for purchases. Since there was no way to transfer the gift card balance to our family sharing account, he went ahead and made the purchase with his account. Is there a way we can still share the purchase to our group in Family Sharing?

We all are signed into our own Apple IDs on our devices for iCloud, but my husband’s account is for the App Store and purchases. Everything is set up correctly in our family sharing account, with sharing purchases and ”Ask to buy” turned on. However my husband didn’t have to approve this purchase for my son because it was done on a gift card. he didn’t sign in to my husband’s account for iTunes/App Store purchase before he redeemed his gift card. Just trying to see how we can share what he bought with the rest of the family group.

No he did not hide the purchase. I sat next to him when he made the purchase because we couldn’t see there was a way to transfer the gift card balance first. Also checked to see if sharing was turned in and it was. We were curious if his purchase would show up in our shared purchases but it doesn’t. Seems like no one here knows either so I’m just going to have contact Apple support.
