Read Receipts Not Working

I have turned on Read Receipts for one person only, iPhone 11 Pro Max, iOS 13.3. This automagically turns off every day even though I do not turn off my phone. I have to set it to on again daily, sometimes more than once a day. Anyone know of a fix for this? I have searched the World Wide Web and found zero answers to this question other than turning off iMessage and turning back on - this was well over a year ago that that answer was given.

This is a great question, and provides us with very useful information.


If you are deleting the message thread each day for this person, the special settings that you're configuring for it will be reset back to the system default when the message thread starts again.


I'd suggest leaving that thread open for a few days to see how it works without deleting it. I think that you'll see it working as you expect it to this way.

I like using Read Receipts with some people, but not with others as well, and I'll be happy to look into this with you.


You mentioned having found a suggestion to turn iMessage off, and then back on; have you had a chance to try this yet?


You may also want to try turning Read Receipts on for everyone, restarting your iPhone, and then adjusting this feature to match your specific preferences.
