Update Path to Java

I have Catalina 10.15. I installed JDK 8 and I know it works because I have access to LibraOffice database. But Netbeans 8.2 won't install and complains that JDK8 is not installed.

But I notice in Terminal that Catalina path to Java is as follows: /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin/Contents/Home/bin/java

I also noticed that the actual Java Path in the System Preferences > Java Control Panel is as follows:

/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin/Contents/Home/bin/java (lacking the slash after Internet.

Can I update that path to follow Catalina's preferred path? Or is there another work around?

That is a java applet plug-in, not the JDK home.

You didn't install a JDK. You installed the Java Applet plugin from Java.com.

You have to download a Java SE 8 JDK from Oracle.com.

You can run apps from the JRE in the plugin, but you can't use it with other tools like NetBeans.
