Can't drag and drop files

New MacBook pro 16". Instead of draging and dropping files, when I use the two-finger method to drag and drop it opens a file preview OR allows me to change the name of the file. But I can't physically move the file. I"m sure there's a setting for this, but have no idea where to look. Helllp.

MacBook Pro 16", macOS 10.15

Using Drag-and-Drop:

Try this:

Highlight what you want to transfer, holding one finger on it, then drag it over to where you want to drop it, using your other finger.

Example of Drag-and-Drop:

If there is an image you want to drag-and-drop from a folder to the Desktop, do his:

  1. Press: on the image with your thumb;
  2. Drag: it over to the Desktop with your index finger to the left;
  3. Drop: the file by releasing your index finger; then
  4. Release: both fingers

Note: It does not matter which two fingers you use for this, nor the direction you move it the file file.

I have trouble dragging & dropping items with the new haptic feedback trackpads. In the Trackpad System Preferences uncheck the "Force Click and Haptic Feedback" option. I may have the name wrong, but it is the last option on the first tab of the Trackpad settings. See if this solves your problem. Or practice practice practice until you learn the trick as I think it is a combination of clicking on the correct spot and the amount of pressure used to initiate the click & drag.
