Elgato (TB2) Dock, suddenly dead...

3 days ago - out of nowhere - my Elgato (TB2) Dock started to behave weird. It was gone, and then re-appeard... now it is completely gone. I tried to plug it into my MacBookAir, and all was fine. Can apple change things in a Software-Update, so that these thingies stop working?!?! (that was the only change I possibly could have had done)... -and, if so WHY would they want to do such a thing?!?!?!

I have now (additionally) installed Catalina on my iMac. - Same problem.

I have changed the cable-routing to my dock. -same problem.

oh, BTW: The LaCie TB2 3-Disc-drive works fine!

I just can't "reach" my Dock...

Any help would be HIGHLY appreciated.

Yes. Firewire was also one of the strange leftovers, some years ago. Many camera-users were furious, since the system worked flawless...

I think I have found the "cause" of MY problem now:

For some really un-explaniable reason, my 5,5m Corning TB2 cabel (that was pretty darn expensive), just stopped working. I have no clue why! -it was in it's wall-cover since 2 years, and I have NEVER touched it.

Another strange thing, that I stumbled over, whilst trying to find the reason, was when I wanted to ReInstall my -very well functioning- System HighSierra. I am refused to Download this System, and also I can't open my full Downloaded Image I made 2 years ago. Apple claims that the image is "broken". Go reckon.

Hi there,

I've seen a few reports of TB problems with external drives, but if it was wide spread I think we'd see lots more.

I'd consider a RE-INSTALL...

I don't know for certain, but in the past Apple made changes that caused some Firewire Drives & chipsets that caused some brands to quit working but others worked fine, so I can picture the same thing with Thunderbolt Drives.
