I am running a MACBOOK PRO with CATALINA. When I move new bookmarks into the alphabetical order, and turn off the laptop, the next time I go to 'BOOKMARKS' the new one(s) are at the bottom of the list. Also when I delete old bookmarks, the same thing happens - upon next start up the deleted bookmarks are back.
Can anyone tell me what is happening and how I can fix these issues??

It is easier to sort bookmarks in a folder using built in Sort feature.
At present a user can only sort bookmarks in a bookmarks folder.
Folders cannot be sorted alphabetically.
Drag and drop is the way to go.

DOMINIC23: Drag and drop is the method I use. And I am not using 'folders', I simply list the bookmark then I drag and drop into the proper order.
