So I was trying to install elementaryOS linux on a flash drive, it installed to main hard drive and now all the files are gone, its my moms MacBook Air and not sure if she made a backup. i need to restore all the files back
help please

If she did not, you should have!
Without a backup, there's nothing to restore.

Nothing you can do but learn a lesson here to backup anytime you start messing with a PC. Especially with a duel boot or foreign OS install such as Linux or even Windows on a Mac.
