why mail in archive box will not delete?
Why do they keep coming back? I try to delete them and they won't
It's likely to continue for ever.
First, assuming all your Mail is IMAP & not POP, highlight Inbox, from Mail's Mailbox menu choose Rebuild.

Ah, OK, on gMail nothing really ever gets deleted, they keep it forever, but mark deleted stuff so you can't see it.

I'm not sure what is going on with yours though, are you using Rules or any On My Mac Mailboxes?
I quit, I give up..must be google...if I delete my archive box filled with thousands n thousands of emails on my apple mail, it wipes out all my mail, if I set delete mail upon downloading on my gmail account it does nothing...arrgh!! I hate having no control over my business
I guess I'm at an impasse....gmail has me held hostage at their mercy. Just don't touch my archive box in my mail app. Over down bottom left it states "downloading xx of xxxxxx messages" guess it will continue that cycle until ? ugh
Who is your eMail provider?
I think I figured out how to get it deleted off my server
what should I be using n what's the difference? maybe that's why
Thank you!! gmail had me pop enabled, but on my laptop mail is set auto..I am assuming it's imap. Thank you for your help and info
OK, so now where are we? :)
I found in very small print under settings, hidden within POP set up a place to enable deleting messages after being downloaded to my mail app.. hopefully this is the answer
