New mail now shows up in Archive rather than All Inboxes

All my incoming mail now shows up in Archives rather than All Inboxes. I have not changed any settings or done anything different than the past. Archives has mail I archived through September, and suddenly the mail from a few days ago.

It’s one of the idiosyncrasies of Gmail.

Since a message can be tagged with multiple labels, and IMAP can’t put the same message in multiple folders, it will be random where new messages appear, they have both All Mail and Inbox labels. Mail maps All Mail to the Archive folder.

If your Gmail account allows it, you can disable showing All Mail in IMAP.
