Cannot hear caller

I have purchased two iPhone 7s and am experiencing the same problem with both. When calling, I cannot hear the caller and the caller cannot hear me. It is not on Mute, and the Speaker icon is greyed our completely. Please help me troubleshoot so I don’t have to return a second time.
