Hi,

Try booting up in Safe Mode (see Finder help menu for instructions) and, after everything loads, immediately shut down and reboot in normal mode. Now see if you can download iMovie.

Downloading current iMovie requires Catalina or at least Mojave 10.14.6. If you have an earlier operating system you will need to upgrade to at least 10.14.6.

Also, check to see that you have sufficient space to complete the download.

If still no luck, try contacting Apple Support and see if the techs there can help. To do that, click on the Contact Support item in the upper right hand corner of this forum's screen. Navigate to a phone number that you can call. The people at Support are pretty savvy and likely can assist you.
