How to disable Mail app. Filling in some forms online open in Mail app, and can't switch to other mail apps in preferred browser. Icloud mail runs S-L-O-W in Firefox or Chrome. (don't get me started on the decrepit Safari browser).

Open Mail's preferences, click on the General button. Change the default email app. Alternatively, set the email you app you are using to be the default email app.
You change email clients in Mail > Preferences > General in the "Default email reader:" drop down menu.
Those are the settings I'm using.
Why when I am viewing an iCloud email in Firefox, and have a form to reply to, Apple's Mail program opens and I cannot select to send a reply from .gmail, .hotmail, .msn etc.
I really would like to remove the Apple Mail application, but the Genius Bar folks tell me it is a core program of the operating system, and they can't disable it. Very frustrating because the Mail app is SLOW - (move to trash, classify as junk, etc.). The same iCloud account is almost instantaneous in Firefox or Chrome, most of the time. Sometimes it may take a minute or longer to delete or move in Firefox or Chrome, about the "normal" speed of Mail.
Anti virus program scans are coming up clean.
