MacBook Pro Nvidia resale devalued, any recourse?

hello,

My MacBook Pro 2014 15” was top of the line and cost me over $4000.00. Since installing Mojave it has become mostly useless because Mojave killed the internal Nvidia Quadro card that came installed. I installed Mojave before it became public knowledge that the internal Nvidia 750m GPU would become unusable after the “update”. I obviously can’t go back to any previous working OSX because of Apple policies. Even if I hadn’t updated past high Sierra any security updates would effectively end Nov 2020 there by killing it again as one can’t go on the net without proper security. So it’s a perfectly good quite fast machine with the only proven solid keyboard design being used again in 2019, a great i7 CPU , beautiful Retina display and real function keys that I require for efficient workflow. Personally the touch bar is inefficient for most apps I use. Then there’s the great mag safe and SD card slot I rely on for iTunes music storage and a perfect head phone jack. It’s perfect.

It’s a perfect machine sold to me by the Apple store now being effectively hobbled by Apple. Why not allow Nvidia to support our legitimate and expensive Apple products sold to us Apple customers with a simple driver ?

Anyone have solutions ? Or recourse?

What is it you are missing beyond "basic web viewing level stuff." ?

First I have heard to the issue here in the ASC.

"As a result of the lack of web drivers, external GPUs with an Nvidia graphics card released in 2014 or later have compatibility issues with any Mac running macOS Mojave. Likewise, any Mid 2010 or Mid 2012 Mac Pro upgraded with 2014-or-newer Nvidia graphics is incompatible with the operating system.

Nvidia graphics cards based on Kepler architecture, which Apple offered in various Macs between 2012 and 2014, are fully compatible with macOS Mojave. Apple has since switched to AMD as its dedicated graphics card provider.

There is some debate as to whether Apple, Nvidia, or both companies are to blame for the lack of web drivers, which are usually released within a few days after a major macOS release. If we learn any new information, we'll share it."

As you may or may not be aware, Apple and Nvidia no longer cooperate so millions of Apple users that purchased even official Apple Nvidia hardware like me are now purposely being pooched. I bought my MBP directly at my local Apple store. Anyhow this model was sold with these high end expensive Nvidia 750 GPUs that are now purposely crippled because nividia is not allowed to submit driver updates. I won’t go into the details but im another Mac user paying the price. Even resale is now devalued big time. This affects a few million MacBook Pro users from 2013-2014. Apple forums as you may be aware does not allow open discussions and especially on this subject meaning this discussion will probably be erased soon as thousands of others have. The nividia site on the other hand has over a million hits on this very subject as it was allowed to be discussed quite openly there.

I’ll keep hoping and looking for any solutions to get this MBP working again.

That info is mostly wrong. The driver also consists of the CUDA instruction set - really cuda is the whole point of having this fancy 2GB Nvidia GPU. Every time I restart a pop up comes on screen requesting the missing cuda driver for the Nvidia card. Like a feedback loop I’m stuck getting this eternal pop up appearing requesting the Cuda driver update - which is not being allowed to update because of this Nvidia Apple war- so the GPU will no longer run.

sigh.

Is this in relation to eGPU or something different ?

Which MBP is this :

Kind of like buying a Ferrari that went 200 MPH and suddenly the factory issues and update and its now limited to only 10 MPH. ,

Most of the software I use is either 3D or compositing related so that’s an issue. Most all higher end graphics related or scientific programs actually require Nvidia and Cuda to even run. Not to mention the custom application drivers made for the pro level Quadro GPUs that AMD just cannot run. This is the very same reason I can’t even use the new Mac Pro as without Nvidia and Quadro support it can only run the prosumer level software. Furthermore after going thru this Apple / Nvidia fiasco I cannot in good conscience purchase any new Apple MacBook Pro knowing they may again decide to just turn something off effectively killing my hardware again.
