how to silence Siri’s responses on HomePod

The last thing I want late at night is for Siri on my HomePod to wake everyone up by screaming “GOT IT!” when I ask it to turn off the lights.

Is there no way to have it never, ever provide updates on what it’s doing via speech? To just silently raise the volume, turn off the lights, or start playing the music I asked for? I do not need to hear anything more than maybe a brief acknowledgement chime. Having Siri speak when it’s not necessary is extremely intrusive.

It’s fine when I ask it a question; otherwise? Kindly shut it, Siri.

I find it goes through phases doing “got it”, then it goes back to being quiet.

if it’s bothering you at night, you might try turning the HomePod volume down
