Have you depressed and held the Power Button down until the screen turns black and then push the power button again to start it? I no not know which MacBook Air model you have. If it is a 2018/2019 model the then the top right button (Finger Print Sensor) is the button you should be using. If it is one of the earlier models then use the button marked for power (Usually Top Right).

Force Escape the App Manually:

If an app is not responding, then you need to escape out of it, and then force quit it manually. Get into Finder and then use Force Quit.

So...

First, Escape Out of the app:

  1. Press: [command + tab] to exit the Not-Responding app
  2. Select: Finder icon (Smiley Face)

Then...

Force Quit the Not-Responding App(s):

  1. Go To: Apple Menu
  2. Select: Force Quit...
  3. Select: the Not-Responding App
  4. Click: Force Quit button
