AMD Support wont let me obtain my rewards

I saw this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/250101123

That didn't work for me. AMD still asks to download the verification tool, which is an EXE that won't open on MAC.

Basically what happened is, I purchased an AMD Radeon RX 580, which I have installed on my mac mini as an eGPU. I sent screenshots of my purchase receipt from amazon. I send screenshots of my mac detecting the RX 580 as an eGPU. I even sent a picture of it installed inside my Sonnet eGFX Breakaway Box. They responded with this:

"Unfortunately our PVT program is only compatible with Windows at this time. In order to redeem your coupon code you need to be on a true Windows operating system (VMs are not supported). We apologize for the inconvenience."

Really? So essentially, people who use these cards outside of Windows, aren't allowed to claim the promotion they are owed? I have to literally buy a windows pc, install the card, claim my rewards, the return the pc? Actually ridiculous.

This is really an AMD issue not a Mac issue but consider trying the following workaround.

  1. Setup a Boot Camp partition on your Mac (at least temporarily)
  2. Install a trial copy of Windows 10 in to the Boot Camp partition
  3. Boot Windows 10
  4. Connect the eGPU (to Windows)
  5. Run the AMD tool

The following article may be of some help.

Obviously this setup is not what you want for real use but it might be sufficient for this one time requirement. Other people use similar solutions involving Window Boot Camp as workarounds to install various firmware updates when the firmware updater is only available in a Windows only form.

I learned years ago not to purchase anything based any supposed future rebates or rewards because there is usually something in the fine print which will disqualify you. Unless you get an instant rebate at the checkout you should not base your purchasing decision on any type of potential future reward. If you then get the reward, then it is a happy bonus over what you expected. I find rebates & rewards are just legal scams to get people to trick people into buying a product.

The best you can do is contact AMD directly and voice your displeasure.
