iPhone Back up issue

I have a macbook air and a new iPhone 11 pro max and for some strange reason, I'm unable to backup my phone. Everything is up to date, but when I plug my phone into my computer, it doesn't appear in Finder. All it does is charge my phone. Help anyone?
