Logic Pro X freezing on initial start up

Hey there,

No idea what’s going on or how to remedy this but for the past month or so Logic (currently on 10.4.8) hangs on my initial startup. It’s fine after the initial first run of the day but it’s like clockwork if I turn my computer on for the day and start up any session blank, old, empty, template, etc. Logic will get the beach ball for anywhere from 40 seconds to 2 minutes. Then it eventually acts normal and is fine going forward. This didn’t happen in the past and I’m not talking about the plugin loading. This is after logic opens to the home screen where if it’s a blank session you choose whether you want an instrument track or audio or track or whichever.

Anyone experience this or have any idea what might be causing this?

I have already tried trashing preferences, completely uninstalling and reinstalling, reverting to older versions of logic, etc. Nothing helps and I have no idea what might be causing this. I haven’t installed anything new lately. I also just recently got a new computer and this one does it exactly like my last system (I also didn’t copy my old hard drive or anything of that sort, I completely re installed everything new on this one.)

This isn’t the hugest issue ever as like I said it only happens on the initial open of the day but it’s still annoying/concerning enough.

Again, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

mmm. I’d be inclined to relocate the library to your system disk and see if that makes any difference. It’s a hassle for sure but given you can always put it back and you’ve tried nearly everything else!

I have seen this behaviour when logic is looking for sampler files but generally you get past the opening. Unless you’ve got a template with lots of sampler links (Exs24) that are maybe your own?

Thanks for the reply. Yes, my Mac runs great otherwise and logic runs fine after it’s had the initial freeze of the day - on startup of Mac and Logic.

Ive got two midi controllers (Nektar Impact, Maschine MkIII) and three SSDs connected. (One ssd for samples, one ssd for libraries and one ssd for recoding to)

Ive tried unplugging everything, I’ve tried re installing I’ve tried updating and rolling back to older pro X. I honestly can’t think of anything else to do.

As I said in the post, it’s not a huge deal as once it does a freeze for the first time I either wait it out (1-2 minutes) or force quit immediately and then it’ll work fine until I either log out of my computer, reboot, etc.

Thanks!
