E-mails that automatically open when scrolling or hovering in my in-box

I don't want my e-mails to automatically open when I scroll up/down in my inbox. I want to require a "click" to open any e-mail.

Hello NewMacBookAirfan,

I understand you do not want your emails to open automatically when scrolling in your inbox on your Mac. I'm happy to help you out with this.

First, are you using the Mail app on your Mac? If so, when you say they are opening when you scroll, do you mean you're able to see the body of the email message itself on the right-side when scrolling through your messages list on the left side? If you're using the arrow keys on your keyboard to scroll through the message list, it would be normal for you to see the email messages open on the right side depending on how your settings are in Mail. However, using your trackpad to scroll, or manually scrolling using the scroll bar, should not cause this to happen. One way to prevent this altogether would be to change your View settings. Open up Mail and select View from the  menu bar. Click on Show Side Preview to remove the checkmark next to it. This should prevent any messages from being opened until you double-click on the from your messages list. Here's more info on viewing preferences you can adjust in macOS Mail: Change Viewing preferences in Mail on Mac - macOS User Guide.
