Older Apple TV

I have an older Apple TV hardware. I just tried to sign in and it won’t let me. It’s been a while since I used it. What has changed?

What model of Apple TV exactly? If its a 2nd or 3rd generation, make sure its software is updated. If its still running older tv firmware, access to the iTunes platform is restricted.
