Hey selijah52,

Thanks for the reply, and additional information. We appreciate it!

When looking at the Apple () logo > System Preferences > Desktop & Screen Saver > Desktop > Is 30 minutes the only option grayed out?

Do you have folder with multiple pictures selected on the left?

Then select the Change Picture. The time options should enable then.

If the option(s) still do not enable, do you have any Screen Time restrictions enabled?

Change Screen Time Content & Privacy Other preferences on Mac

Is your Mac a managed device from school or work? If so, check with the administrator.

If those instances do not apply, do you have another user to try with? If not, you can set up a test user:

How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac

You can also try with safe mode, to test if you're able to see the Change Picture time options.

Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac

Keep in mind, safe mode runs system checks on start up, and may take longer than usual to get to the login screen. Plus, the display may look different. This is expected and when you restart your Mac, it will go back to normal.

Enjoy your day!

Hi selijah52,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities! I see you have a question about Desktop preferences, and I'd like to help.

In the Desktop pane of Desktop & Screen Saver System Preferences, the Change picture options do still include 30 minutes, as shown here: Change the desktop picture (background) on your Mac Options from 5 seconds to every day are choices.

If you're not seeing these options, restart your Mac and then check again.

More information can be found here: Change Desktop preferences on Mac

Take care!
