Screenshoot issue on Mac

When ever I try and screenshot on my Mac mini it just leaves the screenshot box on screen without taking the screenshot. The only thing that gets rid of this box is restarting but then as soon as I try to take another screenshot it happens again; any suggestions for a more permanent fix are greatly appreciated. Attached is a photo of what I'm trying to describe.

Mac mini, macOS 10.15

Try rebuilding the preference file:

From your Finder "Go" menu > "Go to folder" then copy & paste this file path:

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.screencapture.plist

Click Go.

Delete the plist file and restart or log out and in again.
