Has anyone been able to connect their AE to the NetGear CM1200 modem? Any suggestions? When I create the Wireless network, the AE cannot see the internet,

I don't have a CM1200 on hand at this time, but have used the product in the past with an Apple router and things work just fine.

However, the Airports do not support port aggregation.....an advanced feature of the Netgear modem......so you will need to check to make sure that this feature is not enabled on the Netgear modem. Refer to page 20 in the setup guide of the modem for more details.

We need some additional information from you before we can begin to troubleshoot your issue. Please follow the steps listed below:

Disconnect any Ethernet cables that might now be connected from any of the LAN (Yellow) Ethernet ports on the Negear modem.

Power off the modem

Wait a few minutes

Power up the modem and let it run for a few minutes

Connect your computer using an Ethernet cable directly to the top #1 LAN (yellow) Ethernet port on the modem

Check to see if you can get a good Internet connection that way. If you can, then we can proceed. If you cannot, you will need to work with your provider to get the Internet working when your computer is connected directly to the modem port #1......before.....we can proceed.

If you cannot connect a computer directly to the modem using an Ethernet connection, and if you are sure that the modem is working with another router......what is the make and model number of that router?

Post back on your findings and progress.

Does it have to be in the top port?

Yes it does if the modem is configured as "standard". Why? The modem can only supply one valid IP address. Make believe that port #1 is the only Ethernet port on the modem for general purposes.

You can prove this to yourself if you power off the Netgear modem for at least 30 minutes......then.....hook up the AirPort and see if it can connect to the Internet. If it can.....then the other router will not connect to the modem with an Internet connection.....unless you go through the 30 minute+ power off sequence, etc.

If you really do need to connect two routers.......connect one router to the modem.....and then connect the second router to the first router.

Let's start with: Does your ISP support this modem? I'm guessing that you have already contacted them and they verified that is the case ... correct?

By "AE" are you referring to the AirPort Extreme or AirPort Express base station? Regardless, which exact model is it?

No matter which model, did you perform a "factory default" reset on it, and set it up from "scratch?" If so, you mention that you cannot get Internet access via wireless. How about with a client connected to either the modem directly or via an Ethernet port on the base station?

Who is the ISP?

You normally need to power off the modem for several minutes even up to 30min for the public IP lease to expire and a new lease to be handed to the Airport which does not allow MAC address spoofing.

Bob said a few minutes but I think it can take a fair bit longer. Even though my present setup is using fibre not cable, it still takes 15min to expire the old lease before you can swap routers.
