2018 MacBook Air Logic Board Replacement

I recently had the logic board go out on my 2018 MacBook Air. Of course it was two months out of warranty. There was no physical damage to the machine at all. I was typing and the screen went black and that was it. Took it to the Genius Bar and they sent it into Apple to replace the logic board for $530. I looked online and saw that multiple Mac web sights said that Apple was replacing logic boards on a small number of 2018 MacBook Airs. Apple said that they were completely unaware of such program and they would not cover any of the cost.

Has anyone else had this issue and had any luck with Apple covering an obviously defective logic board?

As with all other Apple free repair extension programs, there are very strict criteria to qualify for the repair programs which are usually based on manufacturing date/serial number range. Apple likes to keep the exact qualifying criteria secret. Since Apple has not publicly acknowledged the existence of a free MBAir Logic Board repair program the Apple Store or an AASP would be unable to confirm the existence of such a program existing as it is considered privileged information.

Here is an article which mentions the secret free Apple repair program for MBAir 2018 Logic Boards which mentions Apple has not yet publicly disclosed its existence (and Apple may never publicly reveal it much like the Anti-glare coating repair program aka Staingate).

For what its worth, if Apple ever decided to extend the range of affected systems you would be able to get reimbursed for your repair.
