I'm getting this error message: "____.app" cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified error

However, this file isn't even on my computer! I recently purchased a new Mac Book Pro and transferred files from my old MacBook Pro so I feel this might be related. This pop up will not go away. How do I fix it? Thank you!

Thanks for taking the time to post here in Apple Support Communities, Luke. Based on your post it sounds like you're receiving a pop up notification indicating that a specific app cannot be opened, due to the developer being unverified. Is that right? I wouldn't want this popping up on Mac, especially if the app isn't installed. I believe I can help.

At what point do you see this error message? Does this occur while using a specific app or feature, such as Safari?

Have you checked System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Allow apps downloaded from, to see if any executable file is waiting there?

If so, you can test the issue in and out of safe mode. Safe mode will clear the system cache, and attempt to repair any directory related issues. Take a look: Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac

Keep me updated.

Cheers!
