I am looking at Mackeeper and Malwarebytes for protection. What do you think?

Mackeeper claims that they are now approved by Apple. Is that correct? Is it safe to download? I have Malware, but the features seem to be much more limited

I think neither of them is necessary and one (MacKeeper) is 100% malware. Mac OS is extremely secure and if kept up-to-date will remain so. Malwarebytes is useful if you have downloaded and installed (note you have to install it first) malware and adware. While Malwarebytes is harmless and may be useful, however by using a bit of common sense this makes the need for it unnecessary. The common sense is:

  • Never download anything from a site you don't know and trust.
  • Don't use a torrent to install software you did not pay for.
