Is there a way to make the default dissolve time for a picture in picture in iMovie 0 seconds?

The default time for dissolve in PIP is 0.5 seconds, but I have to change it to 0 every time because that's my preference. (I make YouTube videos and add dozens of graphics PIP per video, so I was hoping there is a way to simplify this process.)

Hi,

I don't know of any way to set the PiP dissolve default to 0.0 seconds.

However, you can set the first PiP at 0.0 seconds and paste that adjustment into all of the other PiPs at one time. So, for example, say you have 10 PiPs in the project. Set the dissolve of the first one at 0.0 seconds. Then select it and do an Edit/Copy. Then select all of the other PiP's as a batch. Then do an Edit/Paste Adjustments/ Video Overlay settings. That will set the dissolve for all the PiPs at 0.0 seconds. Of course, it will also paste any other settings that your first PiP had, such as size and position. So you would want to paste the dissolve default before you made all the other adjustments that you might want to make to the PiPs. You can make those adjustments once you set the dissolve for all PiPs at 0.0.

Excellent suggestion! I never thought of that. What I did is went through the video like normal without changing the 0.5 default for each PiP. Then at the end when all the PiPs were properly placed and timed, I selected all of them (clicked on the first one, pressed shift, then clicked on the last one). Then, I edited the PiP dissolve time to 0 seconds, and wella, it applied to all instantly.

(Just posting this answer here in case anyone else has the same question and wants to see what I did step-by-step 😊)
