How to start up my desktop mac with os x utilities

how do i startup my comp an OS X Utilities box appeared on my screen with 4 options

restore

reinstall

get help

disk utilities


none of the options work


first time this happens

iMac 21.5", OS X 10.11

That means you have booted up to your Recovery HD, you do this by pressing and holding the Command and R keys.

To get out of it just restart your mac, or click the Apple top left of the screen and select Startup Disk, make sure your Macintosh HD (or whatever you have called it) is selected and press Restart.
