apple ipod touch 7th generation screen lockup and color

apple ipod touch 7th generation screen lockup and color. sometimes screen locks up with muticolor non readable format. turning on and off wont clear it up (cant do that). only way to "fix" is to wait til battery dies, recharge, and turn back on...any suggestions?

iPod, iOS 9
