iPhone XS battery capacity at 85% after 1 year

I bought my iPhone XS (256 GB version) during launch (21st Sep 2018) and have been regularly using it. I was checking the battery health and found that from Dec 2019 to January 2020 (to date), the battery capacity has declined from 88% to 85%. Is it quite normal to have a battery with 85% of capacity after 16 months of use? And a 3% battery capacity decline in roughly a month is symptomatic of any issue? I use the apple provided charger and charges (mostly) overnight then use the phone over a working day. Thanks.

I wouldn't necessarily worry about it. Apple's spec is for 80% battery health after 500 complete charge cycles. This is what lithium rechargeable batteries do. I've seen jumps in the battery health, and just chalked it up to a reevaluation of the battery health estimate. And it is an estimate. There's really no way to absolutely know how much capacity is in a battery once it's worn. It has to be estimated using all sorts of inputs such as monitoring the flow of current, checking out the voltage, etc. as well as estimating based on its usage. Some batteries do better or worse, and it's not a sign of a defect just because it's lower than the published specification.

After 16 months that sounds just about right.
