Limit texting using ScreenTime

I established screentime limits on my daughters iPhone for many of the apps she uses but it doesn't seem to limit messages and texts. How can I restrict her ability to text?

Hey BSApple650,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! It sounds like you need a bit of Screen Time advice. I'd be glad to assist.

While there's not a way to limit the volume of messages that can be sent or received in a day, you can go into Settings > Screen Time > Communication Limits and set up some restrictions. For example, you can go to During Downtime, which gives you the option to limit what contacts can be interacted with during the Downtime segments of the day that you have set up. If you'd like to see a limiter set on the volume of daily incoming and outgoing messages via Screen Time, be sure to provide Product Feedback.

Something to also consider is that by default, Messages is part of the list of Always Allowed apps, but it can be removed if you'd like a little more control. To do that, open up Settings > Screen Time > Always Allowed and tap the red minus sign next to Messages and then tap Remove. This will let you add it to App Limits and set up more restrictions than are currently available if it is in the Always Allowed list.

Use Screen Time on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Thanks for your question!

Have a great day.
