Ipod sync

I have music on my IPod that's no longer on my computer due to a crash. If I plug in my IPod, will it wipe out all that music? I want it to redownload to the computer

ipod library deleted When syncing new music files to ipod, the synced tunes end up on the ipod but all the rest are deleted. This has happened four times this week. I can resync all the music files from my pc but I need to know what I am doing wrong when syncing a few files to ipod.
