headphone jack distorted audio

The iPod touch volume can go up as far as 3/4 value on the control in the iPod.

anything beyond that, the audio will distort (gets over amplified and pops speakers). If you go too high it just shuts the audio off (on the iPod)

the output volume is very low as well.

on a set of head phones I’ve had for years and others: the volume is so faint, I can barely hear it.

i have tried using line filters and such without success
