Meaning of "marker supply low" from printer window

Does anybody know the meaning of the error message "Marker supply low" that shows in the printer window?

Multiple users report they get the error message on both HP and Brothers printers - so I guess it's produced from Mac OS Catalina and must have been introduced with some of the latest updates.

Someone must know the meaning?

Nice summery of what seems to be known, digitakoak, as you write:

"So I think it’s Safe to say it’s consumable related, and there is a mismatch or bug that means the printer information is not in sync with the OS so rather than it reporting ink low or maintenance cartridge low it shows this bogus message which is then not cleared when the consumable is replaced and this gets stuck."

In the meantime, sine I posted my question in January 2020, I have noticed as least one printer software update from HP (initiated from the printer) and several OS updates from Apple, and the message on my HP printer has not shown recently.

However, as you say, it would be interesting to have someone deep into printer software, to actually tell us where this bogus messages is initiated....and why/when...

Just click the green "Resume" button on the upper left corner of the printer's window in MacOS. This error occurs because the levels of ink in the printer and macOS are out of sync. macOS, when it receives an apparent signal that ink is low, gives you this error message. Open up your printer's window in macOS, by, for example, searching for the name of your printer in spotlight, and click the green "Resume" button. Nothing to worry about.
