It says "Software update is required to connect to your iOS device" but does that mean it will update my Mac's ENTIRE OS from Mojave to Catalina?

When I connect my iPhone XS Max (iOS 13.3) to iTunes (version 12.9.5.5), I get the message "Software update is required to connect to your iOS device" but does that mean it will update my Mac's ENTIRE OS from Mojave to Catalina?
