Software update to connect iPad to Macbook using Mojave?

"A software update is required to connect to (my) iPad - does this mean I have to update my entire OS?

No, it as an update to iTunes on your computer. I performed the same update yesterday, when attempting to update my iPhone.

Software update required for my iMac to connect to my iPad I'm currently using Mojave 10.14.6. Is the current software update required for my iMac to connect to my iPad...the installation of Catalina? If so, won't that make all of the programs I use, such as Adobe CC unusable, since Adobe hasn't come out with a 64-bit patch?
