What has happened to News?? For the past couple of weeks, it is VERY slow to update. It’s now routine to wake up in the morning and see the Top Story being 8 hours old. Swiping to update changes nothing. It is noticeably slower to update. Even during the day, when I check, stories are hours old. What’s changed?

I'm glad restarting has helped with this situation. While I can't verify for sure if these stories were updated at the same time, I can provide you with steps to help isolate this.
Try connecting to a different Wi-Fi network to see if the news feeds update more frequently.
You can also set up your News app on a different device to see if the updates are around the same frequency.

This is normal depending on the nature of the current news cycle. It all depends on how often publications that feed the app upload and publish the information. Apple does not provide the content. It just curates it.

Is it normal that the first page of my News feed is stuck on “loading” while all the stories in that “For You” section are now 11 hours old? Have ALL of them coincidentally not had new stories for 11 hours? The wheel spins but nothing updates! This has gone on all day! Your answer does not seem accurate given what I see happening.
This app has changed noticeably over the last few weeks! It is noticeably slower-
An additional note - I just scrolled all the way down my News feed - in EVERY section, the stories are all 8, 10, 11, 12 hours old. Have all these publications stopped updating today?
I just checked - all the Top Stories in my feed have the same “7 minute” update time - is it possible that 6 different publications updated at the same time?
I restarted my phone overnight and it seems to have corrected it - at least to some extent. Stories were updated to a more recent timeframe. I am still watching this and am still very skeptical about the News app - too many stories from various publications show the same update time consistently. I am convinced that this app performs differently than it has for awhile. It was routine to see updated stories have times of “minutes” since the last update. Now, it seems much longer and the situation I originally described has happened several times over the last few weeks.
