Mail keeps changing flags to red
My mail program keeps changing my flags to red. Any ideas on how to fix this? I’m using an iPad Pro with iOS 13.3.
Thanks,
Jerry

If using IMAP, all local actions are passed from the local client to the IMAP mail server - and thereafter to other logged-in mail clients.
If the IMAP server doesn’t support different flag categories (i.e., flag “colours” as now implemented within iOS/iPadOS 13.x), then the functional nature of IMAP is such that your local email client will subsequently re-sync its “local” view of the server at the next synchronisation cycle. Said another way, the server has the “master” version of your email messages - each client only has a “copy” that is effectively locally reset on each sync-cycle.
Different email providers offer different features within their IMAP server implementation - for example, Google would be considered very feature-rich, whilst your (and my) experience of Yahoo’s implementation would suggest something close to the other end of the scale; Apple IMAP implementation would be somewhere in-between these two extremes. Google and Apple support different flag colours - Yahoo and derivates don’t have this support.
As such, I don’t believe that you are seeing a fault - but instead a difference in IMAP implementation between email service providers.
As for your other issues, if still using iPadOS 13.1.x, you would be well advised to update to the current version - which at time of writing is iOS/iPadOS 13.3.1.
I feel this is off-topic thread hijacking (apologies to all) - but if you are having difficulty with an account password after the update, you need to verify the password is correctly set in two settings for each affected account on the device:
Settings > Passwords & Accounts > [select email account from list] > Account > Password
Settings > Passwords & Accounts > [select email account from list] > Account > SMTP > [Primary mail server] > Password
I have the exact same problem, except only on my iPhone, not on the iPad or iMac. And it only happens when connected to the Internet (either WiFi or cell service). If I even switch to another app or just the home screen and go right back to Mail, the flag colors all go back to red. Thank you for the solution!! I will try it tomorrow.
@Finchale--
I know how to configure mail servers on the iMac, but how on a phone?
I use the mail app that came with the iPhone which is tied into my iCloud Mail account. (I have a separate, additional Yahoo mail account but that uses either the Yahoo app or the Safari browser and is a different address anyway.)
On my iMac, the only flag color choice I have is orange, and flagged emails remain that color, even the same ones that show up as red on the iPhone! On the phone, all colors change to red the second I connect to any network (cell or wifi), and even if I just switch from Mail to another app or go to the home screen; as soon as I go back to Mail again, bang, all red.
On another thread, an Apple tech recommended forcing Mail to quit and restarting the phone, but to no avail.
Thanks for any help!
That doesn’t seem to help. I’m pretty sure it’s a problem with the iOS and the mail app. How do I let Apple tech support know about the software problem?
Thanks,
Jerry
Glad to hear.
