Why do I not get text messages anymore on my IPad? I cannot send either

If you are referring to iMessages, check to make sure that iMessage is activated and that you are connected to the Internet. If you are referring to actual text messages, SMS, then on the iPhone, go to Settings>Messages>Text Message Forwarding, and make sure that your iPad is selected. The iPad cannot natively send or receive SMS, it is done via the iPhone.
