Blame it on "intermittent communication failure" with the server - a page WILL load without all of its components

If the buttons were "images" with a "hotlink" attached, and the image did not load, you would see a "broken image link" icon similar to this

This siteware invokes the controls with javascript - placement, shape, color, gradient & label are all done "on the fly"

IF the javascript fails to load the element, you see nothing

I will go out on a limb and say it has nothing to do with your device. It may well have SOMEthing to do with your internet connection. But it is most likely on Apples end

I see [Reply] buttons in Firefox for iOS as well

Are you seeing the "mobile" version (Portrait orientation) or the "Desktop" version (Landscape orientation)?
