internal CD/DVD not recognizing
I just had my entire iMac erased and reinstalled the operating system at the Apple store. However CDs or DVD's are not being recognized? I don't know what to do.

EtreCheck is a simple little app to display the important details of your system configuration and allow you to copy that information to the Clipboard. It is meant to be used with Apple Support Communities to help people help you with your Mac.

Pastebin is a good place to paste the whole report...
Or use the paperclip at the bottom of a Reply to attach the full report here. :)
Workable but harder for me to work with...the Note tool on the bottom of this editor's toolbar, as shown in the image, to copy and paste the output from EtreCheck.
I'm having this same issue - both Mac's that have been burning CD's yet since the latest update they do not. I have tried ALL the steps above.
I have a MacBook Pro and iMac. Both over 4 years old. Both used to recognize CD's no problem.
Yikes, biggest problem...
Failing hard drive - This machine has a hard drive that appears to be failing.
I'd delete all theAvast & Intego files mentioned.
And all the .plists in the Clean up: section then restart.
In Finder>Preferences>General & Sidebar, is show CDs & DVDs checked?
Yes. In the system report it even shows disc burner, but it doesn’t show ata devices installed.
Any luck?
This did not help I did it three times.
Does it kick them out or what?
Hello BDAqua,
I'm having the same issue with my MacBook Pro, High Sierra v10.13.6. The drive works in safe mode but not otherwise.
Thank you.

The MacOS does not recognize the CD's content and the error message says "Do you want to burn content on them or eject the disc" (paraphrasing).
