Selecting a timeline range and pasting that selection elsewhere in the timeline has been broken for some time for some users. I have the latest 10.4.8 version of FCPX and it is sill not fixed in 2020! I have previously tried deleting prefs as suggested by others on this forum, but no dice. Has anyone found a solution to this issue that I don't know about?

Tom - I could do, but not much to show as it is really a non-event. Briefly, prior to V10.4, I would select the range tool (R), and with that select a region within a clip on the timeline, copy (CTL-C) and paste (CTL-V) to anywhere else, e.g., the end of the sequence, as a connected clip, etc. This was extremely fast and efficient. If I attempt the same today, it is impossible to even copy a selected range. CTL-C>CTL-V elicits the error sound telling me that the clipboard is empty. My get-around is not use the range tool at all: instead I make cuts at the beginning and end of the range I want with the blade tool, select it, copy, undo the cuts, then paste.
I've been checking this and other forums with with threads complaining about the same issue, still unsolved.

Could you post some screenshots of what you're doing where? I can't reproduce the problem as you describe it.
FWIW, copy and paste with the range tool is working fine for me.
Did you try resetting the preferences? If that doesn’t work maybe trash FCP X and download a fresh copy from the App Store.
Luis - Thanks, and yes, resetting prefs was the first thing I tried, but no change. I think I will trash and re-install a fresh copy as you suggest.
Sorry, that was a brain-fart. Yes, I meant CMD not CTL! Same as use in other apps.
Terrence - just in case you are having the problem still, do you realise that CTL-C and CTL-V are not the standard copy and paste shortcuts? COMMAND-C etc is the standard shortcut. Just out of curiosity I selected a range on the timeline and hit CTL-C and I also got the beep sound , indicating I was using an unassigned Key combo. Just thought I'd mention. (You can always use the menu just to make sure that copy and paste is truly not working on a range.
