Editing lighting effects after the photos are taken in the portrait mode

When I want to edit photos taken in the portrait mode, for some of them I can change the lighting effects (Standard, Studio Light, Contour Light ,Stage Light, Stage Mono, or High-Key Light Mono) and for others these lighting effects do not show up when I go into Edit. I cannot understand why some have that capability and the others do not although they were all taken in the portrait mode.

Hi, Berena.

I'm glad you decided to reach out on the Apple Support Communities forums today. I understand that you’re finding the ability to edit the lighting effects in some photos you’ve taken with Portrait mode, but not all.

Have you noticed any similarities in the photos where you’re not able to edit the lighting effects? For example:

- were they taken with the front-facing or rear-facing camera?

- do they all have the “Portrait” tag on the top left?

- were they taken with the same device or transferred / synced to the iPhone?

It’s possible that the device on which it was taken doesn’t support all the lighting effects, or the format in which it was saved in transferring modified your ability to add some effect.

This is a great article regarding editing Portrait photos after the fact:

Hopefully it helps.

Best Regards.
