Hi, my friend and I have the same usb mic and the same imac. When she records audio in GB it works great sometimes and then other times it distorts terribly. I'm pretty tech savvy and have tried everything. I recently reinstalled her GB but that didn't work. I have tested her mic and lead on my computer and it works fine. Any ideas what this could be?
Thank you for your help. I had already called Apple Support and they solved it for me. It took quite a while but we got there in the end. It was to do with Launch Agents located in Library. I dragged the things out of that folder onto the desktop and tested GB and voila...no distortion! Thanks for the link though. Interesting reading!

If GarageBand for Mac won't open or play back your project - Apple Support

Greetings, That's a strange problem. Just to make sure - are the input levels peaking (red on level meters)? Maybe check the Mac System Sound preferences to make sure input level isn't maxed out. I don't know.
