suddenly tons of junk mail in outlook (web version, safari, catalina)

Question

suddenly tons of junk mail in outlook (web version, safari, catalina)

in the last two days, the amount of junk mail entering my outlook inbox has increased dramatically (from 3 a day to 50!). i have changed nothing in any outlook setting in forever. i routinely report phishing emails. of course, microsoft help in of no help (i spent an hour this morning just trying to figure out what version i had - i still dont really know). and, i've read all the manual things i can do on each email i get - i kinda dont want to do that 60 times a day...

what happened to cause this?

has anyone experienced this recently?

Hi and thanks for your reply. Yes, I've found the various methods in Outlook to limit junk and spam. I've implemented some but to me, limiting my incoming email to only known senders seems silly - I'd miss mail from new contacts, people I might actually want to hear from.

But honestly, I really was asking if anybody else experienced a sudden avalanche of junk mail the day before my first entry here. It seemed odd.

Hey there boulderskies@ck,

Spam messages certainly can be an annoyance. I'd be glad to look into ways that you may be able to limit those.

While you can't stop people from sending email to your account, you may be able to limit how much of it you see in your inbox. I did a bit of looking, and I was able to locate Block senders or mark email as junk in Outlook.com, which looks to have some great options for limiting the amount of junk or spam you see in your inbox by completing steps like blocking unknown senders and creating mail rules for common email subjects or keywords.

If you need additional help, you might want to work directly with Outlook Help for more suggestions.
