I have the iMac 21.5" late 2012 with OS X 10.9.5 (13F1911). Recently I have run into a prob with running some websites/applications. TurboTax reports needing a browser update but the comp states I'm running the latest version. Netflix shows err of browser not supported. I have tried updating the browser the OS but it doesn't do anything after I click 'install'. What do I need to do to have these sites/apps working again?

when its a whole new version you choose it in app store it's not an update but an upgrade, its free though
I have tried to update the OS....It downloads. I have to open it to run the install (doesn't open automatically as it states) I agree to the prompts and click install on the HD, then........nothing. No screens open, I have no option to click to close the window, nothing happens.
you should go to the app store app and install all updates
and maybe choose to update to a newer macOS version my imac 21 2011 is running macOS High Sierra 10.13.6
When I go to the app store, it shows there are no updates. Actually shows 2 incompatible updates (imovie and iphoto).
I am aware. I have downloaded Catalina. It downloaded, I opened it, agreed to the prompts, clicked install then nothing further happens.....
You need to update macOS.
