Can't eject HD

I ran my Time Machine backup and then could not eject the HD that Time Machine is on. I tried several methods but none worked. Each time I tried the regular icon disappeared but a ghost like image remained. If I click on it I could see and open any file. I tried dragging it to the trash. logging out, force quitting it, telling Spotlight to ignore it, etc. Any suggestions?

Open Disk Utility > select the Time Machine drive > click First Aid > click Repair. Once that is done, see if you can Eject the drive from Disk Utility or optionally quit Disk Utility and see if you can normally Eject the Time Machine drive.

Telling us "I tried several methods" unfortunately does not tell us anything. Please read Writing an effective Apple Support Question to get an idea of what information we need in order to help you and then post again and we can give it a shot.

Use Disk Utility to eject is what I'd try. If that does not work reset the NVRAM per How to reset NVRAM on your Mac and then retest.
