I can't hide a column

In Numbers, when I click on "table", "hide column" is not an option after I select a column by clicking on the columns letter. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Nothing there that rings a bell.

Do you have any merged cells in the table? Cells merged across columns can prevent hiding those columns; those merged across a row boundary can prevent hiding rows.

Hi Terry,

" I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong."

Without knowing precisely and in detail what you are doing, neither can we.

How big is the table? what modifications have you made to it?

Does this happen with all tables, some tables, or just this table?

If the last, how is this table different from the others?

Starting with no table selected and no part of a table selected, can you list the individual actions you take to get to the point where you would select "Hide Column(s)" from the Table menu?

Remember, we can't see what you see, and we can't see what you do. Be specific, and be detailed.

The file goes from column A-J and row 1-544

Columns B through I are summed in column J on several lines, Column A is a text on only column

If I click any column letter individually (including column A), highlighting that column, and then click table, hide columns and unhide all columns are not available, they are grey, not black.  Clicking a cell in any column produces the same result.

As near as I can tell it’s just this table.

Basically what I am doing is adding values from 7 columns (B-I) and summing them in Col. J)

The rows are as follows:

Beginning balance

Revenue

Expense

Transfers

Closing Balance

This repeats as this is a monthly accounting.  Some of the columns no longer have activity, the accounts are closed.  I’d like to hide those columns but retain the history.
